Are Suffering from the Effects of a Cavity?

Posted .

Are you suffering from the effects of a cavity? A cavity is the result of tooth decay on your teeth to the point where your tooth enamel has been so heavily worn, a hole exists. If you do have a cavity, visit your dentist to have the decay cleaned up and a filling put into place. Depending on the size of the cavity and your needs, you can choose from a few types of fillings. If left unchecked, a cavity can ruin your smile and cause you to eventually lose the tooth.

Preventing cavities begins with effective oral health care. Make sure to brush and floss your teeth regularly. You should also schedule at least 2 checkups per year at your dentist for a professional cleaning treatment and to check and make sure your own treatment methods are adequately working.

The food you eat will not only affect your waistline but also your gum line. Avoid sugary foods and drinks that can weaken your tooth enamel. Sticky foods and sweets also tend to linger in your mouth longer than necessary and can be difficult to remove, thereby increasing your risk for cavities to occur. Eat nutritious meals that are high in calcium and phosphorous, as these minerals can help strengthen your tooth enamel.
